Retatrutide Phase 2b Data Show Kidney-Protective Effects in Chronic Kidney Disease
New Phase 2b TRANSCEND-CKD data presented at ASN Kidney Week 2026 found that the investigational triple hormone receptor agonist retatrutide meaningfully reduced urine albumin levels and estimated pressure inside the kidney's filtering units in adults with obesity and chronic kidney disease, with or without type 2 diabetes. Participants on retatrutide also saw reductions in kidney fat and blood pressure compared with placebo over the 24-week study. While the trial's primary measure of overall kidney filtration rate showed no significant difference between groups, researchers say the broader pattern of findings points to a hemodynamic profile that could support long-term kidney protection, pending larger and longer studies.
